How the French placement test works
Not another grammar quiz
A generic level test asks
“Choose the correct form: je ___ (aller) au marché.” Grammar trivia that no DELF paper has ever asked, scored against nothing.
This test asks
What the exam asks: read this notice and decide what it announces, listen to this voicemail and catch why they called. The same task formats as the papers you would sit.
The four DELF levels it places you against
Questions candidates ask
Is this the official DELF?
No. The DELF is only awarded in certified exam centres. This is a placement estimate in the exam's format, so you register for the right level and don't waste an exam fee.
How accurate is a 20-question estimate?
Good enough to choose between neighbouring levels, which is the decision that matters. That is why your result is a range, and why the free full mock exists to confirm it.
Is this a French proficiency test with a certificate?
It measures proficiency, but it awards nothing: no certificate, no official score. It exists to point you at the right DELF, where the certificate actually comes from.
Do you test writing and speaking too?
Not in the placement test. The free mock at your level includes both, graded by AI against the official criteria.
