Who takes DELF A2?
A2 suits school-age learners, language exchange participants, and adults who want formal proof of elementary French. It is often required for certain vocational training programmes and is a common milestone for learners who have completed around 150 to 200 hours of French.
How to prepare for A2
- 1Consolidate everyday topics: shopping, transport, schedules, simple descriptions of people and places.
- 2Practise listening to short conversations and announcements at a moderate pace.
- 3For writing, practise short messages, postcards, and simple descriptions of around 60 to 80 words.
- 4Take a full timed mock exam to identify which section needs the most attention before the exam date.

What level is DELF A2?+
A2 is the elementary or waystage level of the CEFR. It shows you can handle simple everyday communication and understand frequently used expressions in familiar contexts.
How is DELF A2 scored?+
Each of the four sections is scored out of 25, for a total of 100. You pass at 50/100, but you must score at least 5/25 in every individual section.
Does the DELF A2 diploma expire?+
No. The DELF diploma is awarded for life, unlike the TCF and TEF which expire after two years.
How long is the DELF A2 exam?+
The collective sections run roughly an hour and forty minutes together. The individual speaking test is approximately 6 to 8 minutes.
Is DELF A2 useful for work or study abroad?+
A2 is a recognised proof of elementary French for education programmes and some employers. Practise every section with timed mock exams to reach the score you need. For immigration to Quebec or for higher study, you will generally need B1 or above.
