The connector toolbox

Eight families of linking words, six that examiners reward, and one ladder that orders your points. Connectors are tested in all four papers.

By the end of this lesson

  • Sort connectors by the relation they claim: addition, opposition, concession, consequence, condition, reformulation, sequencing, intensity.
  • Tell a real connector apart from a time marker and from an emphasis adverb like notamment.
  • Use the six B2 connectors examiners watch for, starting with or, pour autant and autrement dit.
  • Run one ordinal ladder through a whole text and close it with a word you haven't used yet.
  • Know what each of the four papers does with your connectors.
