What the Speaking section tests

DELF B1 speaking tests your ability to interact in a range of everyday and familiar situations, present a point of view coherently, and take part in an extended conversation. Pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary range and grammatical accuracy are all assessed.

How to prepare

  1. 1Use the 10-minute preparation time to structure your monologue: introduction, two or three points, conclusion.
  2. 2Practise speaking for two to three minutes on a topic without stopping or repeating yourself.
  3. 3Engage the examiner in the exchange: ask clarifying questions and respond to their points.
  4. 4Study corrected examples of the three-part format to understand examiner expectations, then simulate the test with a timed mock run.
